Daniel Fast – Journal – Week 3
We are 3 weeks into fasting and prayer and it’s been great. It’s not been without challenges, but we feel strengthened. Are you fasting? How has it been for you?
This post has been difficult to write. I started on Saturday… This week my spirit was more heightened to what was happening particularly with ‘new age’ messaging. I know this has been creeping in over the past, and now more than ever Christians have started to incorporate ‘new age’ teaching in their daily lives. It’s everywhere! At face value there is absolutely nothing wrong with being clear about what you want in life and visualizing it, positive affirmation, being more mindful, meditation. There’s also nothing wrong with reading books on wealth creation and entrepreneurship or self help. There is a lot to learn from brilliant minds. It all seems very innocent, doesn’t it. You can actually trace some of the messaging from the Bible – Proverbs 23:7 “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he…” There are many more. So far, so good.
The problem comes in when the message is about the universe and ourselves as our source. Ah!!! Here’s the lightbulb moment. Wakey wakey!!! How did the devil tempt Eve? He told her a series of half truths that she believed. He also tried to tempt Jesus using scripture. but as we know, Jesus escaped that trap. Only a spiritual mind can discern spiritual things. Do you know what? A half-truth is still a lie! Please indulge me as I expose some of the lies. I know you’ve heard some of these before:
- Ask the universe. The universe is on your side. The universe will give you whatever you put out. What happened to God? Do we ask God – the CREATOR of the universe? James 1:17 AMP “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes].Every good and perfect gift comes from above.”
- Follow your heart. Not sure you want to do that!! Jeremiah 17:9-10 ““The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out! But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.”
- Meditate to clear your mind, release negative energy and focus on positive energy. What meditation are we doing except focusing on the Word? Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.”
Remember friends, the devil comes like an angel of light. Take a closer look – behind the mask – to uncover the real spirit. Please read 2 Timothy 3. In fact please meditate on it as you think about what the world has becoming and what it will continue to be. Paul is writing to Timothy about the last days. I’m struck by these 3 verses:
2 Timothy 3:5 AMP “ …holding to a form of [outward] godliness (religion), although they have denied its power [for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith].”
2 Timothy 3:7 VOICE “They seem always to be learning, but they never seem to gain the full measure of the truth.”
2 Timothy 3:14-17 AMP “But as for you, continue in the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced [holding tightly to the truths], knowing from whom you learned them, 15 and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings (Hebrew Scriptures) which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus [surrendering your entire self to Him and having absolute confidence in His wisdom, power and goodness]. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; 17 so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
It is so important to have a spirit of discernment. There are so many trends and things that we are entertaining in our lives that have their roots in eastern and other religions. We try to ‘christianise’ them so that we don’t miss out or so that it’s more palatable to us. Friends, pray in the Spirit and ask God to lead you into all truth. Don’t perish for a lack of knowledge. His word is a lamp unto your feet and a light for your path.
Shine the light y’all. Expose the darkness.
