I can’t tell you how happy I have been over the last week or so, with the temperatures dipping. It’s been a welcome break from the heat. I must admit that its feeling rather autumnal and I’m not ready to put my summer clothes away, so I’m still wearing my summer wardrobe, covering up with a cardigan/denim jacket and changing up my footwear to incorporate white trainers.
So, as there’s still 2 weeks left to head off somewhere for the summer holidays and the weather predictions are that the heatwave will return, here’s an edit of what I’ve been wearing over the last couple of months and what I’ll continue wearing until it gets too cold.
Maxi and Midi Dresses
I hardly ever wear dresses because of my thunder thighs – I can honestly light a fire with my thigh rub. I also don’t like my legs (a story for another day)… However, I have been living in maxi and midi dresses recently as they are generally the only thing I wanted to wear in this heat. I love that they make me look effortlessly presentable, they cover my main insecurity and they keep me cool (well – cooler than other garments would). I’ve been living in this maxi dress – I love the wrap style which is fluttering for my figure, the ruffles and the pockets! A dress with pockets is everything!
Off shoulder / one shoulder tops and dresses
Another staple item in my summer wardrobe has been anything bardot, one shoulder or cold shoulder. I think the right item can really elevate basic trousers or skirts. I love the detail on this top from ASOS – the ruffles and material are great for an evening out.
Wide Leg Trousers/Jumpsuits
I’m most comfortable wearing trousers, but you might agree that jeans are not the best item of clothing during a heatwave! Over the last month, I’ve been wearing anything wide legged – from palazzos to culottes to jumpsuits. A wide leg trouser is flattering for most figures and I think are best worn with something fitted on the top e.g. a bodysuit. My fave pair are these from Boohoo. I love the colour on my skin tone. They would also look great in autumn.
Slides
You all know that I love a heel – but truth be told, this is not the time for closed shoes because my feet swell in very hot climates. They are easy to wear and look good in any outfit and give your feet breathing space. My faves are these from New Look. At £8.99 a pair, I have them in 3 colours (black, white and rose gold) and can basically wear them with any outfit. Bargain!!
Wedges
On a day where I want to wear heels, I tend to wear wedges more than anything else as it’s the only time of year when I feel they look ‘acceptable’. I’ve been loving these from H&M for a more dressed up look and these from ASOS for more casual attire.
